From 2012 as an incentive to encourage younger people to become involved in local history, membership for the under 30’s will be FREE.
The Halstead Heritage Museum opens for the 2012 season on 5th February 2012. Further details including opening times can be found on the Museum page of this website.
If you are a member of a group and are interested in receiving a talk or guided walk of the local area, let us know and we’ll organise it for you.
Over 200 people visited the Halstead Museum Open Day on the 11th June 2011 where celebrated local Artist and History Society member Malcolm Root coordinated a special exhibition to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the closure of passenger services on the Colne Valley Railway. Welcome to the Halstead and District Local History Society Website
The Halstead and District Local History Society was formed on Thursday December 16th 1976 at a meeting held in the Scout Hut, New Street, Halstead.
The Society currently has a membership of over 100 and holds meetings on the third Thursday of each month in the Baptist Church, Hedingham Road, Halstead, Essex.
Each year we run a varied programme of local history related meetings spanning the dark ages to more recent times including the influence of the industrial revolution on the area.
During the Summer months the Society organises visits to several places of local interest.

Membership Fees:
Visitor Fee: £3 Per Visit
Single Member: £11 per annum
Single Member under 30 years of age: FREE
Additional Member At Same Address: £8 per annum
